Meridian Chips Commercial

Ok.....so....there is a reason most DPs don't wanna work with new directors. And there's a reason why all DPs don't wanna work with new directors who (think, that they) know too much. First, there was the Nescafe shoot (don't even remind me of that) then this. While Nescafe was a catastrophe, this worked out pretty well. I think this is one commercial, where I felt like the Director, AD, DP, Art Dept. All in one. Sadly, I was paid (not yet, I might add) for only one of those.

The producer of the commercial, is actually the director who I usually work with, Badhon Bhai. Sometimes he would pop in and take control over the real (other) director Zonayed, who really is a great Art Director, but as it is with most people who I've worked with, everybody wants to be the director. I did another shoot with Zonayed in Cox's Bazaar. But that's another story.

BDDL Commercial Shoot

So....this is kinda like a day in the Curious Life of MK. Life as a DP is great. Life as a DP from foreign lands, not so much. For starters, all the lights I know of are called by weird names here. A 2.5K Freznel is a "Solar", 5K is a "Panja", 1K is a "Baby". The open faced ones are called "Multi 20 (2K)" and "Multi 10(1K)".

At least having your own camera system helps....

The shoot went great however. Much needed after the craziness of the last few. The director Badhon Bhai (over here you say Bhai to anyone who's older than you) is one of the few people here, who actually understands cinema, albeit he's kinda biased to the Bollywood scene, but still. This was the first time I worked with some big celebrity, some local kid named Apurbo, who despite his star status was very down to earth.

I'll post the completed TVC once its done. Its in the color grading and music stage, done by yours truly of course.

PS Always sport SC gear!!

Finally bought a DSLR

Yup, finally got one. EOS 7D, so I can use it in my video projects as well. F'in great!! Now I can keep everyone up to date with my daily life.

Took it out for a spin at my grandma's house. Here are some snaps.

2 Years and now.....

2 freaking years since I left LA. Great friends, great food, great beer, great etc etc. However, landing in this crazy country put me exactly where I needed to be. This blog is for all my LA peeps you know who you are (Kev, Lance, Shaners, Jay, Milbs, Rudy, Matty, Kate, CLizzle, Alison, Lisa,  Joe, RayRay, Rafa and Dario, to name a few).

So what have I done these 2 years? Lets see...hopped around 3 continents for a show, made 20 commercials, worked on a feature film, some docus, edited a short that is apparently being shown to Michael Moore (aka douchebag)....oh yeah, founded a new production company so I don't have to call anyone BOSS anymore (which is ironic, since everyone seems to call everyone boss here, just as you Cali peeps would use "dude"). Who would've  thought? As a great SC kicker once said, "Livin' the Dream, man, livin' the dream..."

I know I haven't been the best in keeping up with you guys, so I thought I'd spend some much earned free time to put this thingy up. So Enjoy!
